What Are Angel Numbers?

What Are Angel Numbers?

What Are Angel Numbers?

Angel numbers are a sequence of numbers that you see over and over. Whether it’s on shopping receipts, license plates, or the digital clock on your cell phone, seeing the same series of digits feels like a weird coincidence. But they may be sending a message. According to spiritualists, such as Mystic Michaela, angel numbers represent mystical messages from the universe.

Angel Numbers and Numerology

According to numerology, every number vibrates at a unique frequency. And when a number is repeated—like angel numbers 111, 222, or 333—its power and meaning is amplified. Certain repeating numbers, like 11, 22, and 33, have an extra significance. They are known as “master numbers.”

Perhaps this is why it’s so common for people to make a wish when they see 11:11 on the clock, or why receiving a message at exactly 2:22, 3:33, or 4:44 might be considered a lucky sign—even by someone who’s never studied numerology or heard of an angel number.

What Is My Angel Number?

If you tend to see a certain sequence of numbers over and over again, you can consider that a message—and a personal number for you.

But you can also determine your own angel number. To calculate your personal angel number, you will need to use your birth date. This is called a life path number. Add together all the digits of your birth date. Then pair it down to a single digit. For example, if your birthday was January 1, 2000, then you would add 1 + 1 + 2,000 = 2,011. Add those digits together to get 4, and voila, 4 is your number.

Angel Number Meanings

Whether you believe it’s the work of your angels, spirit guides, or just the magical synchronicity of the universe, it’s up to you. Here are some of the most common angel numbers and their messages so you can decode them next time they appear.

1111 Angel Number Meaning

Let’s start with the most popular and well-known angel number, which is 1111—or, as we recognize it on a clock, 11:11. When we see 1111, it’s the universe asking us to trust our intuition and embrace our spiritual power. 11 is a master number in numerology, and it represents things like psychic intuition and spiritual awakenings. That’s why it’s common for people to notice 11:11 more frequently as they connect more deeply with their mystical side. The manifestation power of this number is strong, too, which is why it’s customary to make a wish at exactly 11:11.

111 Angel Number Meaning

When we see 111, it’s a reminder from the universe to believe in ourselves. In numerology, one is the number of independence, initiative, and new beginnings (which makes sense, given that it’s the first of all numbers). Seeing sequences of “ones” is a sign to own your power, take advantage of new opportunities, and confidently charge forward into uncharted territory.

222 Angel Number Meaning

When we see 222, it’s a sign from the universe that we’re on the right path. It’s a very affirming number, as “twos” represent balance and things being in a state of harmony. Because twos in numerology also relate to partnership and cooperation, seeing sequences of twos is also a beautiful reminder that we’re not alone in our personal quests, even when we fear we are.

333 Angel Number Meaning

When we see 333, the universe is encouraging us to express our visions to the world. The number three in numerology is all about creativity, growth, and communication. It’s a lucky and optimistic number, so if you’re regularly seeing repeating sequences of “threes,” take it as a sign to connect with the world around you and embrace your free-thinking creative side.

444 Angel Number Meaning

The number 444 is a reminder from the universe that we’re being supported. In numerology, four is the number of stability and strength, and seeing sequences of “fours” reminds us that we have a solid foundation beneath us that will offer us protection. This hardworking and down-to-earth energy offers us a deep-rooted sense of safety and confidence.

555 Angel Number Meaning

When we see 555, the universe is letting us know that changes are on the way. The number five in numerology relates to challenges, changes, and turning points in our paths, so it asks us to be adaptable and open to new things. Seeing repeating sequences of fives portends fresh opportunities, exciting shifts, and new adventures.

Remember: While we can decode the potential meanings of angel numbers using numerology, it’s also important to trust ourselvesto interpret the messages that the universe is trying to communicate to us. If you have a personal relationship or association with a particular number that’s continually catching your eye, trust your instincts! As is true of all mystical arts, it’s important to build your own symbolic bond with angel numbers and the magical messages they’re trying to send you.

Angel Numbers Cheat Sheet

Tomorrow is 11/11: Here's Why You Need to Make a Wish!

Tomorrow is 11/11: Here’s Why You Need to Make a Wish!

By Horoscope.com

Tomorrow is 11/11: Here's Why You Need to Make a Wish!

Tomorrow, Saturday November 11, is one of the most auspicious dates on the calendar this year. The number 11 is a powerful one in numerology—it signifies sensitivity, intuition, empathy, and alignment with the universe. And when you have two elevens in a row? Those are the twin flames, signs of a soul mate connection. A twin flame is more than just a relationship, it’s a cosmic connection that binds two souls together, and the numbers 11/11 represent this type of intense, beyond-this-earth connection.

Not only that, but right now, we’re gearing up toward a Scorpio new moon next week, a time when new opportunities, experiences, and paths can present themselves. A Scorpio new moon tends to portend mystery, passion, and unbridled energy, and is a moon of transformation, helping you become who you want to be. And 11/11 can help you get there, by giving you the extra insight, empathy, and intuition to manifest the life you want—and the person you want in it.

Want to go even deeper into numerology? This article offers a primer (as well as shares how to find your life path number.) For this Saturday, here are some strategies for getting even deeper into your mysterious self—and potentially finding your match.

Pay Attention to Coincidences
Your intuition is at an all-time high, so what may seem like coincidences are really the universe gently pushing you in certain directions. See a person who you thought about seconds before? Meet someone with the same name as your beloved grandma? All these count. Pay attention to the deeper messages that the coincidence might be sending.

Write Down Your Dreams
Your soulmate may not come along IRL just yet. But he or she may come across in a dream, and that’s why it’s important to pay attention to the ones you have in the days surrounding 11/11. You know how sometimes you meet someone and feel certain you’ve met them before? Chances are, it’s because you first became acquainted with each other in a dream, which is sometimes the universe’s way of first introducing a soul mate, so the initial introduction IRL won’t be so over-the-top intense!

Want to add more magic to your love life? Try the magic love tarot to reveal your romantic destiny!

Make a Wish
This isn’t just exclusive to November 11, but whenever you spot two 11’s—on your phone, on a clock, whatever—it’s a great time to close your eyes and make a wish? Why? Just you noticing them means you’re pretty tuned into the universe at that moment, which means it’s prime time to manifest some magic.

Call Your Soulmate In
Attached? You may be lucky enough to be with your soulmate right now, even though that connection is covered up by to-do lists and obligations. Spend some time focusing on what attracted you to that person in the first place. Single? Today is a good day to imagine your soul mate, right down to what type of job they would do, and even cast a love spell.

Get Out There!
Coincidences, chance encounters, and meetings can happen, but you’ve got to get out there and find them! Use this auspicious date to live more intensely than you normally do. Say yes to an invite, head to a party, and make small talk with a cute stranger—especially if they seem like someone you may have met in a dream. Most of all, enjoy. When you flow with the universe, it’s energy flows back to you!

The One Magical Habit That Can Change Your Life

Jamie Richardson specializes in tarot decks and readings. Find her @EmberandAura

Every morning you prepare to meet a new day. The Earth has completed another rotation; the moon falls into deeper shadow; the seasons change.

Are your days slipping into a lackluster pattern? Monotony can be both comforting and mundane. But how do we know that our lives matter? How do we connect with our individual purpose? How do prevent ourselves from fading into complacency? The answer is by crafting personal rituals that evoke our highest self.

Feeling lost? Use this reading to find the way to a positive outcome!

Ritual is often disguised in the most ordinary of activities: brewing your coffee, making your bed, and brushing your teeth. Each of these daily exercises is performed to bring forth a desired result—to make you feel secure, revived, orderly, and refreshed. Just as you maintain your outer world through these familiar routines, you can likewise cultivate inner balance through a daily Tarot reading.

The art of Tarot reading is an illuminating and grounding way to begin each day. With the help of its steadfast characters and suits, Tarot cuts through the preconceived notions of our overly rational minds and illustrates our life’s path in the ancient language of symbols. Whether a deck is used purely on its own, or as a supplemental tool with one’s own dreams or journaling, over time tarot becomes a trusted guide and companion.

Read this now: Wait, Crystals Can Get Dirty? And What To Do About It

There are numerous ways to allow a Tarot reading to become a daily spiritual practice. Study various Tarot spreads and take note of which ones most resonate with you. Always conduct your ritual in a special space you have reserved for quiet reflection and invoking sacred energy. This can simply be a windowsill or corner with a few special objects that hold special meaning to you—a crystal, a stone, a feather, an image of a deity, photos of lost loved ones, or even a dried flower from a memorable day.

Once you are ready to begin, your personal ritual might look something like this: Light a candle and request the presence of the Divine. Acknowledge with gratitude the rising sun and the chance to start anew. Ask for protection around yourself and those you love. If you journal (which I highly recommend), take a few minutes to let your thoughts and dreams flow onto your pages. Now, open yourself to Divine presence and shuffle your deck. As you shuffle the cards, ask to be shown two cards: One card that depicts any obstacle you might face today and one card to show what solution may be used to overcome it. This is your lesson from above; this is today’s theme. Meditate on the images and let them rest on your altar throughout your day, if you wish. Continue to journal your first impressions from the cards and possible ways they may guide you today. Thank the Divine for Her guidance and also pray for wisdom and intuition to accompany you as you face your day. Close the practice with gratitude and blow out the candle.

Observing this simple rite on a regular basis will establish a beautiful rhythm to your days. Don’t be surprised if the Tarot cards repeat themselves until you have mastered a particular lesson, or if they seem to take on a lifelike energy of their own. You will find that the wisdom of the cards is just a reflection of your own, always ready to assist you on your journey, always making magic out of the mundane. —Jamie Richardson

Honoring the Day of the Dead

Honoring the Day of the Dead

Honoring the Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead (or El Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday that occurs on November 1-2, when families celebrate their deceased ancestors. The gates between the physical and spiritual world open on the evening of October 31, unlocking the realms that allow families to be reunited.

Ancient indigenous cultures of Mexico have celebrated the lives of those who’ve passed away for over 3,000 years. The holiday originally lasted the entire ninth month of the Aztec calendar year.

November 1 honors deceased children, the innocent souls lost. Offerings are made in the form of toys and dolls for the children to play with and enjoy on the holiday. November 2 celebrates the deceased adults. For them, we bring libations and earthly gifts that they’d find amusing and adore.

Many people do altar work to attract their ancestors in spiritual form. This requires them to make offerings to the spirits. Usually, marigold flowers, foods (the favorite foods and libations of the deceased are made and placed on the altar), fruit, and water are left on the altar with photos of ancestors and candles burning brightly throughout the day. These offerings are used to attract ancestors and alert them to come towards the loving space that we have created in their honor and memory.

Dressing up in skull masks or face makeup is common. This is a contemporary way to celebrate the holiday. The more traditional approach is to eat sugar skull cookies known as pan de muerto and to drink atole, which is a spicy dark chocolate liquor, and greet neighbors with “Feliz Dia de los Muertos,” which translates to “Happy Day of the Dead.”

Having a lovely and lush meal with living family members while holding an empty seat with a place setting the spirits is a welcoming way to evoke them to come out and enjoy the fun. Families hold feasts with wine and food that the deceased love. The family raises a glass and gives a toast to the family members they are honoring. Everyone reflects and shares stories about their ancestors. Tears, laughs, and a wide range of emotions are felt throughout the course of the meal. After all, it’s a celebration of the circle of life and those who we miss dearly.

Festivals continue in the parks and cemeteries, where the spirits are remembered and revered. All generations of families gather together and unite in paying tribute to their deceased loved ones. Music is played. Dancing under the sun lasts until moonlight. Additionally, flowers, photos, and personal trinkets are left on the graves of those who’ve departed to let them know that their presence is not forgotten and always felt. People also make crafts, art, and jewelry that have personal significance to the departed and allow them to feel the tender love and kindness their family has for them.

Cleansing the home and energy is important as well. It’s always a good idea to refresh and reset one’s personal energy when doing altar work and connecting with spirits to keep the energy clean. Also, to ensure that you’re aligning with the right spirits — the ones who are only giving you love and respect.

The Day of the Dead is not a one-off holiday, meaning that it’s not just celebrated one time throughout the year. Plans and offerings are made throughout the year, not just on this one day. This is the time when the bell between the spiritual and physical world is the nerve and normal, which is why it is a time that the spirits come to visit. However, this is a time-honored tradition that spans decades and generations and requires consistent devotion and love.

The magic of the Day of the Dead is one that has stood the test of time and brought families together. It is the most magical and inspirational time of the year for all who celebrate. Knowing that your ancestors are present and showing you the love that you feel for them is the most wonderful sentiment one could possibly feel. All of these reasons and more are why Dia de los Muertos is an amazing time for those who celebrate — and why it should be honored throughout the year.

Is a Soul Mate Real and Do You Have One?

Is a Soul Mate Real and Do You Have One?

By Shereen Campbell

Is a Soul Mate Real and Do You Have One?

As far back as I can remember, I’ve pondered the meaning of this elusive word, “soul mate.” A soul mate is person who is perfectly suited to you; your ideal mate, with you to the end. Sounds so romantic, right? Or maybe a little too romantic — like the ending of a fairy tale: Prince Charming had finally found his one true love, for no other lady was as perfectly suited to him as Cinderella. And they lived happily ever after.

But do they soul mates really exist?

I think not. In fact, I’m calling bullshit on this definition of soul mate and advocating for us to let it go and embrace a new definition! I yearn for a day when we look at two people and see all the hard work, dedication, perseverance, love, and compassion it took for them to complement each other so nicely. The current definition over simplifies the emotional growth and development these two people took to stay together. Of course, they probably had a ton in common and many similarities, but their union most definitely took some work. And this isn’t just true of romantic pairings — familial relationships and even friendships require attention. In the end, relationships that are long lasting and fulfilling take a great deal of energy, compassion, and love.

How will your love life change over the next 12 months? Find out now!

As we jump into this, let’s take a look at the word soul mate. It is made up of two words, “soul” and “mate.” First, what’s a soul? It’s hard to define, but loosely, it’s a spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal. And a mate, of course, is one half of a pair. Both words have no inherent judgment, but soul mate is most definitely a loaded term. I believe that’s because, as humans, we have a tendency to categorize and label things, and we might have added in the perfectly suited portion of the definition in an attempt to glamorize the coming together of two individuals. I suppose to some extent this makes sense, because that’s generally how it starts. Fast forward to Prince Charming and Cinderella two years later, and I’m sure even they had to make some compromises. Let’s be real: Soul mate shouldn’t mean, “the only person in the whole wide world who’s totally and completely a match for you,” but rather, simply two individuals coming together to make it work.

If we took this a little bit further and dug into what a soul is actually doing down here on earth, it would bring this sense of learning and growing into view more. Astrology, in itself, is more or less the study and cycles of human growth and evolution. Furthermore, most religions and spiritual beliefs in one way or another share the thought that we are here to become a better version of ourselves. What better way to do this than to interact with other souls that share the same unconscious goal? Moreover, since we know that I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect, and actually no one on the planet is perfect, wouldn’t it make sense that any two imperfect individuals who come together are soul mates? And, in the end, maybe a soul mate is just the folks that you enjoy being around while you all work on yourself? It’s something we should really think about deeply. Perhaps anyone could be your soul mate and maybe we could use a break from trying to force this whole idea of perfect on each other.

Read This Now: Who’s Your Synastry Soul Mate?

As much as it’s fun to glamorize the idea of a soul mate, I think we should all just keep it real and know that when two individuals come together to put in the energy to create a relationship they’re proud of, that should be called a soul mate relationship. They helped each other heal, grow, and flourish. And the best part is, there are lots of folks and types of relationships that could help you do just that. There’s not need to look for just one special one. Keep working on being your best self in all your relationships, and you might find yourself with a bunch of soul mates. That’s a definition that can make everyone happy. — By Shereen Campbell

5 Ordinary Objects for Practical Everyday Magic

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the witchy stuff out there. Between all the crystals, Tarot decks, moon journals (plus having an astrologer on speed-dial), there are so many sexy spiritual accessories that sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin. What do you really need—and which items are more of an unnecessary luxury?

While a fully decked-out altar looks lovely on Instagram, it won’t necessarily make you happy. And she who dies with the most crystals still, well, dies. So, as much as I love “stuff,” I’m happiest spending my money on experiences, or things that connect me to something greater. Scroll below to see the ordinary objects that I find the most magical, but also most practical.

Fresh Flowers

A bunch of roses or tulips is not a luxury! They cost about the same as an oversized drink from your favorite caffeine corporation, and they will give you much more joy. I always have pink roses on my altar, a purple orchid on my coffee table, and—often—a bunch of tulips in my living room. They remind me of the beauty that is all around us (if we will just open our eyes and look), connect me to the earth, and bring a beautiful spark to my home. They are worth every penny and more.

An Aura Photo

https://www.instagram.com/p/BtLvivhHVtk/

If you don’t know what your aura looks like, how can you live with yourself?  Get thee to an aura photographer stat! If you’re in New York City, get down to Chinatown and visit Magic Jewelry for a quick photo and a reading that will blow your mind.

The shot, which shows your aura—a rainbow of colors that can help decode what you’re projecting in your everyday interactions—is a great visual example of how there’s so much more to you than meets the eye. Not in NYC? One of my dear friends Christina runs a traveling aura photography studio called Radiant Human, and her photos are to die for. Beloved by the fashion set, her aura portraits are so beautiful they’re worth framing.

A Magical Manicure

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwXn8sGHhAV/

Our hands are the very tips of our body: They are what we use to create, to touch, and to receive information. They are the primary way we send energy from our body into the universe. We communicate with our hands all day—typing messages on our phones and computers, gesticulating, and adding flourishes to our body language.

So here’s the deal: A sparkly, gem-encrusted, or otherwise fabulous manicure actually emphasizes the energy you’re putting out. When you honor your hands, you are honoring yourself and your expression. A magical manicure makes you more mindful of what you’re about to make manifest. And I am convinced that I am a better writer when my manicure is on point!

Embrace Your Power—5 Types of Witches and Witchcraft

Witchcraft seems like a particularly buzzy topic these days, with books, blogs, and more delivering ancient magic to a modern audience. But while stylized Tarot cards and light-catching crystals have their place, the shift from intrigued observer to practicing pagan can be a daunting one. So why not start the process by determining which brand of witchery resonates with you?

Read on to learn about five specialized takes on witchcraft, where the variants came from, and which type of witchcraft resonates most with you.

Astrology

What is an astrologer? An astrologer, or cosmic witch, is a witch who uses planetary and celestial energy in their practice. They study and feel a personal and spiritual connection with not only the main planets in our solar system, but with asteroids, meteors, supernovas, stars, constellations, galaxies, and black holes. Cosmic witches pay particular attention to astrology, horoscopes, and zodiac signs—but that only gives us a picture of how the cosmic forces influence the individual. Cosmic witches are focused on how celestial energy influences the inner self, but also the world.

History: Cosmic witches have been around since the study of planets. According to the American Federation of Astrologers, the Babylonians are credited with the birth of astrology. They used their astrological charts to predict the “recurrence of seasons and certain celestial events.” Around 2000 B.C., Babylonian astrologers believed that the sun, moon, and the five known planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto had yet to be discovered) all had distinct character traits (Mercury representing communication, Venus representing affection, and so on). Cosmic witches use these planetary traits to call upon their energy. For example, many witches choose to perform spells on a full moon because the full illumination can create an extra magical boost and enchantment—and the rock itself is said to align with emotions and the soul.

Modern cosmic witches: A present-day cosmic witch may not be using astrology to predict the weather, but rather to predict future events or influences. For example, it’s beneficial for a cosmic witch to know when Mercury is in retrograde, and in which sign, because it will allow them to determine where communication breakdowns will occur, and in what guise. If a cosmic which was planning to perform a love spell, their best chance of having it being successful during a new moon which corresponds with new beginnings and relationships.

Divination

What is a divination witch? A divination witch uses their magic to try to predict the future, often employing a variety of tools—or one that resonates. There are so many mediums with which to connect into the magic of the world: think Tarot cards, oracle cards, a pendulum, the I Ching, palmistry, and tasseography, and more.

History: Divination and divination witches have existed in just about every time period in history. In ancient Greece, divination witches were known as Oracles, and it was believed that deities spoke through them. A famous oracle was high priestess Pythia—known as the Oracle of Delphi—who was thought to be the mouthpiece of the god, Apollo. Every culture has its own form of divination. In ancient China, the diviner would carve out their question onto an ox bone until it cracked, and then the cracks were analyzed.

Modern divination witches: Today, divination witches don’t claim to be the mouthpiece of the gods; instead they use divination to predict likely answers to simple queries like, “Am I on the right career path?” or “Does this relationship stand a chance?” And in true modern fashion, divination methods like Tarot can even be found on our phones.

Herbalism

green witch

What is a green witch? A green witch works with magical properties found in the natural world. Their craft is based on respecting nature and all living things. Green witches focus on the magical correspondence of herbs, plants, and flowers. This incorporates herbalism, which is the study of botany and use of plants intended for medicinal purposes.

History: Herbalism is found in many cultures, but Chinese herbal medicine is one of the ancient variations still practiced today. Chinese herbology is based on the concepts of yin, yang, and Qi energy, where the herbs can either cool (yin) or stimulate (yang) certain parts of the body, the concept used for ritual and spiritual practices as well as medicinal. In parts of Africa, an herb known as purslane was used for purification during and after ritual ceremonies, while in some Scandinavian countries, clover was once used to ward off evils spirits and help develop psychic ability. In folk magic tradition, chamomile is said known to bring luck.

Modern green witches: Today, green witches still take herbal magic very seriously, using essential oils and creating small physic gardens in their own apartment. (You can find plenty of green witches on Instagram for inspo!) Be aware that this is a learned art: it’s extremely important to know the health effects of the herbs you plan to use or ingest as well as the magical benefits.

Kitchen Witch

kitchen

What is a kitchen witch? A kitchen witch practices magic within their own home. Their magic is not based on any divine power or spiritual guidance, but that magic that can be found in the everyday routine. Their craft comes out while cooking, baking, and nesting while tapping into the power of their own intention.

History: Witchcraft and cooking have always gone hand-in-hand. During the late 15th and mid-18th century many of the 200,000 witches (mostly women) were tortured, hanged, or burned at the stake were accused of poisoning food. Even now, our classic image of a witch persists as a woman stirring her cauldron. There has always been a magical and ritualistic nature surrounding food. Like green witchcraft, kitchen witches use herbalism in their food-based magic—but kitchen witchery isn’t just about food. It can also be making a homemade offering to a deity, cleansing and protection your home, and so on.

Water Witch

woman in water

What is a water witch? A sea witch, also known as a water witch, works with the element water in order to tap into their magic. They feel a deep, powerful connection to the water—whether it is the ocean, sea, or lake. This powerful pull leads them to be more aware of their own mystical energies.

History: Sea witches have been found in many cultures throughout history. From the sea nymph Calypso of The Odyssey; Sycorax of Shakespeare’s play The Tempest; even Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. However, sea witches have a deeper history in mythology. In Norse mythology, sea witches were magical, malevolent feminine spirits who often took the form of mermaids. These witches believed that their power and bond over the sea and tides was born of their worship for the moon. The triple goddess symbol holds particularly deep meaning for sea witches, as it represents the three phases of the monthly lunar cycle: waxing, full, and waning.

Along with praying to the moon, sea witches have had a long history with practicing dowsing, a method of divination for finding water, metals, even gravesites underground by using a Y-shaped stick made of hazel. Dowsing has been around since the Middle Ages, used frequently in Europe until its association with witchcraft caused the practice to be shunned; its legitimacy as a science is still up for debate.

Modern sea witches: Contemporary sea witches may not be luring sailors to their deaths, but they are still incorporating water, weather, and the moon into their practices, finding their own magical connection with the sea.

5 Rituals to Celebrate the Winter Solstice

As we approach the shortest and darkest day of the year, winter solstice, it’s a good idea to spend some time addressing the items that are cluttering our psyches. Never fear, as this process is necessary. Just as the trees and flowers go through the cycles of death and rebirth throughout the year, we go through more psychological versions of these cycles. In astrology, the seasons, equinoxes and solstices represent this psychological process. An equinox represents when day and night are equal length, while a solstice represents the point in time when the sun reaches its most northerly or southerly point in the sky.

What exciting new developments will unfold over the next 12 months?

The cycle starts with the spring equinox in the sign of Aries. Aries represents birth, the start of a new cycle. In spring, we see the physical evidence of this with animals coming out of hibernation and the seeds of plants being planted. Wherever you see Aries in your chart, this is where you are meant to initiate, to take bold and new steps into the unknown.

This trend continues through Taurus, where we are anticipate the seeds we planted starting to manifest and start to tend to those seeds. As we move through Gemini, we start to adjust however necessary to ensure those seeds bloom, thinking creatively to battle whatever comes our way. When the summer solstice arrives in the sign of Cancer, the need to protect all that has been given to us comes up. The seeds have manifested into things more magical than anticipated and it is our duty to tend and nurture them. We then proudly display the fruits of our labor (Leo) and then meticulously organize and prepare for the future, busy ourselves for the upcoming darkness (Virgo).

Soon enough, the sun enters Libra, where we arrive at the fall equinox to make our journey through the darkness. Daylight becomes shorter and we begin to venture more deeply into ourselves. Just like the plants begin to die, their bodies gracefully returning to the earth, we go through a time period of our egos receding, attempting to make room for others. We go through transformation, first understanding our relationships with others (Libra), then exploring the murky water of our shadows (Scorpio) prohibiting us to merge fully and finally starting to explore the beliefs that drive us (Sagittarius). A short time later, when we arrive at Capricorn and the winter solstice, we are encouraged to celebrate the rebirth of life. This marks the shortest day of the year and from this point forward, daylight will grow in length, we will finally march towards warmth.

This is the time of letting go of all that holds us back, integrating all that we learned in the dark while we explored our shadows. We look at our fears with determination to surpass them (Capricorn), we push boundaries looking to revolutionize our world (Aquarius) and then commune with all that is, realizing fully that we are an intricate part of everything (Pisces). We can now have hope for the new cycle coming our way. With that said, for the winter solstice or Yule, there are some fun rituals to explore to help you celebrate your own rebirth and these are a couple of my favorites.

Winter Cleaning

Similar to spring cleaning, winter cleaning helps you to let go of the old in order to make room for the new to enter your life. If you have a bunch of junk around the house, this is the optimum time to clear it away! Pagans refer to this as a Yule Cleansing Ritual. Remove items that you feel no longer serve your higher purpose or items that are distracting you from focusing on the things most important to you.

Cleanse Your Space

Bust out the sage for this ritual! I like to walk around my home with a white smudge sage bundle requesting energies that do not belong to me away. You’ll find me smudging my doorways and windows for extra benefit while quietly asking anything in my home that is not of my higher purpose to leave. I love to use holidays like this one as a reminder that it needs to be done.

To buy: Cleansing Sage Kit, $15.00

Donate Your Stuff

Now that you’ve cleansed and cleared out your space, the winter solstice is a perfect time to donate your gently used goods to those less fortunate than you. Among many traditions, including paganism, Christianity, Islam, etc, donating to others is an important part of service. If you no longer have use for something, what better way to show the Universe you are happy to create room for sharing with others.

bath soak winter solstice

Cleanse Your Bod

Taking a salt bath infused with some of the herbs associated with Yule makes for a great way to celebrate the solstice! Some herbs you can use are pine, evergreens, ivy, holly, mistletoe, birch, oak, yew, frankincense and myrrh. As you soak or scrub, imagine that all your troubles are being absorbed by the water and salt, being scrubbed away from you.

Light a Candle

Once your space and body has been cleansed, and you’ve given away some of your gifts to others, one way to commence your celebrating is with a little candle ritual. Try lighting some gold and green candles, and spend some time reflecting on the past year. Feel free to write whatever comes up down, as this helps you to process, let go and invite some newness into your life. Did you accomplish all of the things you had hoped? What was missing? What turned out better than you anticipated? Are you feeling connected with your higher purpose? What are some ways you strengthened your connection this year? What are some ways you diminished this connection? What do you want to let go? What are some things you want to create in the upcoming cycle? Finally, as always express your gratitude for what’s to come, as all you have goaled is already yours.

Happy Yule!

What's In Spencer Pratt's Spiritual Tool Kit?

What's In Spencer Pratt's Spiritual Tool Kit?

Welcome to “What’s in Your Spiritual Tool Kit,” a new series where we talk to notable lovers of all things ~mystical~ to find out the tools they use to stay grounded. First up: The Hills’ star, famed crystal lover Spencer Pratt!

You know Spencer Pratt as the iconic “villain” of The Hills. Or perhaps you’ve seen him on Celebrity Big Brother. Or I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here. Or one of the other multitudes of shows that he and his wife—Heidi Pratt (nee Montag)—have appeared on.

Here are some more things you should know about Spencer: He’s a devoted father, a huge fan of all things hummingbirds, and crystals have changed his life. That’s right: The guy who brought you all the drama on reality TV now swears by the healing power of precious gems—he even sells his own collection!

We caught up with Spencer to talk about how he got into crystals, how he uses them in the bedroom, and which crystals he carried with him as he was shooting MTV’s current reboot of The Hills.

How’d you get into crystals?

I got into crystals a few years back when Heidi had a surgical procedure or two…maybe more. The pain killers were not working, and it was horrible watching her be in pain all night long, so I started researching alternative healing methods.

I came upon crystals, and I read about Sugilite, which people can hold while they sleep to get rid of nightmares and have really good sleep. I went and bought like a 15 thousand dollar chunk of it, because at the time I thought I was Tom Cruise. I  certainly spent like I was.

She held it all through the night, finally slept, and said it was the most magical thing ever. I don’t think it’s physically possible to fake your brain out of that much pain. I don’t know if it was the placebo effect, but it  helped the person I loved most so I was all in. I turned into dang Harry Potter for a good couple years. I went a little too deep. Crystals have really changed my life, though.

What is your greatest wish? Find out if it will come true now…

How do you get too deep into crystals?

When you take a crystal wand everywhere you go and you build portals before you enter a room, and you block people’s energy with your wand, yeah, you’re a little deep.

It’s a little better now. Obviously, I still believe crystals have energy levels, especially because I have my own crystal collection, but to me the brand is this: Beauty is energy and I find so much beauty in the crystals. And that creates energy and healing regardless of whether you can tune into the crystal’s actual energy. They’re for everyone.

What crystals do you always carry with you?

I try to always have Moldavite on me. Recently I’ve been carrying aquamarine, and I always try to have Kunzite on me.

Moldavite has proven to work in psychic protection. When  I did Celebrity Big Brother, I didn’t wear any Moldavite and I was attacked by the housemates in all of my dreams, crazy dark stories. When I came back to do All-Stars, I made sure to wear Moldavite on a chain 24/7. I slept like a freaking angelic little baby.

Kunzite helps with self-love and reminds me to  just always be aware of being a loving entity and energy. Aquamarine makes you feel calm,  gives you courage, and helps you with self-expression. I need a lot of that when I’m shooting.

What crystal would you take into a crisis?

If it’s a crisis where I need protection, Black Tourmaline. But if it’s a crisis where I’m supposed to be a positive force in the situation—Amethyst or Ametrine. Ametrine is Amethyst with citrine so that could bring in more support and a feeling of abundance to the situation.

Do you use any crystals  ~*~ in the bedroom ~*~?

Next to the bed we have two Hawaiian Amethysts. I have 14 Ametrine floaters on my bedside table. And we don’t use any of those crystal eggs in Heidi’s vagina or whatever. She just looked at me weird, but it’s a thing. And it’s actually very bad for you, so you shouldn’t do it. I don’t care what Gwyneth says.

I’ve been told not to have anything but Rose Quartz by my bed, because it’s pure love. I know I’m breaking the rules here, but I  think Amethyst is more helpful with healing and balancing. We had Rose Quartz by our bed for eight years and we just recently switched it to the bathtub. Heidi says we should probably switch back.

Which crystal makes you happiest?

Whichever is my newest. Right now it’s smoky Amethyst Elestial Scepter from Zimbabwe, from the Shangaan tribe. It makes me feel like I’m on the right path. Actually, I also love Smoky Elestial Quartz, I have one that looks like a tiger shark in the way it’s striped — and I just feel like a tiger shark moving through the water. It makes me feel strong.

What crystal are you taking back on The Hills with you?

It’s Moldavite all the way. Gotta stop those psychic attacks before they start.

Does your son (Gunner) wear any crystals yet?

Gunner’s mommy doesn’t let him wear too many crystals because she’s worried that he’ll swallow them but I would say he loves to play with citrine the most since he loves wealth.

You know what? Gunner’s just a big crystal himself.  Can I say what’s my favorite crystal? it’s Gunner. He keeps me grounded, he keeps me protected, he’s a miracle.

3 Rituals That Immediately Send Good Vibes Your Way

3 Rituals That Immediately Send Good Vibes Your Way

3 Rituals That Immediately Send Good Vibes Your Way

One of the most wonderful things about magic is that it can be done anywhere, at any time. You don’t need to be wearing a special cloak, dancing around a bubbling cauldron … even though that image is very evocative! You can harness your power with your back pressed against a bathroom stall, as you rock gently within a subway car, or before you drift off to sleep.

While we all want to manifest big love, plenty of cash, and a life full of adventure, sometimes we just need a little hit of magic: Something to make us feel better on a day-to-day basis. Here are three simple rituals that I practice every week to stay positive, confident, and centered. Try them, and watch magic happen in your life!

Energy Protection Ritual

How to do it: It’s all about creating a vision! There are many variations, but here are two of my favorite ways to do it. The first technique is calling “zipping up,” where you imagine a huge zipper that starts at your pelvis and runs all the way up to the top of your head. All you need to do is visualize closing that zipper, and thereby sealing in all your goodness!

What it does: Protecting your energy is a way of keeping other people’s psychic gunk off you. You know how sometimes you walk into a room and feel like you’re absorbing someone else’s bad vibes? You’re not imagining that! When you protect your energy, it means you get to contain all positivity… and you won’t pick up anyone else’s unhappy mood.

When to do it: It’s best before you leave the house for the day, although you can repeat it throughout the day, whenever you’re feeling drained.

The second technique involves seeing yourself inside a sphere. Some people like to visualize themselves inside a big pink bubble, but I like to see myself in a huge disco ball, through which only positive energy can penetrate (and all negativity, jealousy, and bad vibes get bounced back out!).

Confidence-Boosting Ritual

How to do it: Take a piece of carnelian and charge it under the light of the full moon. As you place it on your windowsill, set the intention that this stone reawakens your power to move confidently in any situation, fires up your vitality, and fills you with positive energy. After you let it charge up for a night, you can use it whenever you want to! Keep it in your pocket during interviews, place it on your desk, and rub it whenever you need a little extra boost!

What it does: Infusing the crystal carnelian with intention will keep you focused and confident, no matter who you come up against. It’s so easy to lose your nerve when you’re in a high-stakes moment, but with the help of this stone, you can move ahead confidently, no matter what.

When to do it: Initially on a full moon. Then, any time you’re heading into a situation where you want to be your best self.

Meditation Ritual

How to do it: Go outside! If you can find a grassy area and take your shoes off, so much the better, but this isn’t essential. Find a quiet spot and stand with your feet apart, tip your head back and close your eyes. Imagine a huge cord dropping down from your root chakra and going into the ground, going down so deeply that it hits the core of the earth. I like to envision my cord wrapping around the core a few times so I know it’s really secure. Then, visualize expanding the cord and widening it so that it becomes like a beautiful cosmic garbage chute, and watch as all the anger, sadness, rage, and confused energy flows down it and into the core of the earth. When you feel like you’ve let it go, you can blow up the cord (in your mind, of course!) and then visualize the sun filling your body with golden light. You can take as long as you want to do this—sometimes it’s lovely to take a couple of minutes, but it can also be done in a pinch if you’ve got somewhere to be!

What it does: This super-simple meditation technique is one of the best ways I know to truly chill out. Instead of stewing in your own head or feeling gripped by anxiety, you instead, choose to connect with the earth and allow your negative energy to drain down into it.

When to do it: Any time you’re feeling stressed, overworked, frustrated, angry, or overwhelmed.
